The US Department of Justice Offices of Justice Programs and Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention have announced FY23 funds to implement O-OJJDP-2023-171713 Second Chance Act Addressing the Needs of Incarcerated Parents and Their Minor Children.
The Sheriff's Office proposes to work with the Families First organization in Salisbury, NC to offer the Nurturing Fathers' Program, an evidence-based 13-week training course designed to teach parenting and nurturing skills to men. This program would be offered to fathers who are incarcerated at the detention center to help fathers develop effective skills for healthy family relationships and child development.
Recommendation:
Authorize the County Manager to sign and have submitted the "FY23 Second Chance Act Addressing the Needs of Incarcerated Parents and Their Minor Children" grant program.
